Summary: Gut-Brain Secrets explains how friendly bacteria in your digestive tract nourish and protect your good health, resiliency and longevity. Or bad bacteria slowly poison you from within… upsetting your brain biochemistry, and causing attention deficit disorder, autism, depression, anxiety, and other GAPS conditions (as defined by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride).

A “corrupted gut,” as the author calls a disordered microbiome, is also the root cause of digestive disorders, food sensitivities, autoimmunity, and the diseases of modern man.

Gut-Brain Secrets

The premise of this book is that not only does what we eat affect our brain and our health but that most of what you’ve been told about what is healthy is wrong or incomplete. At first glance that seems like “oh yeah, sure it is” but reading further shows that the author has done research. I obviously can’t say it’s all true as I haven’t done research myself but it sounds plausible and worth reading.

The book is big with small text so it will take some time to get through but I think it might be worth it. Although many chronic conditions can be caused by gut issues, the book focuses the most on ADD (attention deficit disorder.)

Here is a quote that shows the way the book reads.

“For context, the germ theory contends that when microbes outside of your body get inside, they multiply and cause an infectious disease, such as a viral infection. That theory is false. More accurately, it’s a half-truth that misleads people […] In the natural world […] we are always surrounded by microorganisms. They are everywhere. Thus infectious diseases are caused by microbial exposure (or other agent), exceeding the immune system’s ability to contain it.”

Here is a listing of the part headings: How Nature Nurtures and Man Manipulates, Microbes and Our Corrupted Guts, The Science and Mystery of ADD and Solutions to Gut-Brain Problems.

If you or someone you know suffer from any chronic conditions (which most of us do) such as Depression, ADD, Autism, Autoimmune disorders, ALS, Parkinsons, Bipolar etc, you will want to read this book. Read and then do your own research to decide if the book is telling the truth or not. I think it is.
