This is one of the hardest books I’ve ever read. Dave underwent abuse like I’ve never seen or heard of anywhere else. Apparently it was one of the most severe child abuse cases in California history. He is very brave to write this book and share what happened to him. He is an inspiration for being honest. The amazing thing is, no matter how bad it got, he never gave up. He never said forget it, I’ll just die. He even fought back a few times or at least grin and beared it.

His unstable and alcoholic mother did atrocious things to him while his father just sat by and did nothing. She played games of torture with him, he could have easily died many times.

I just don’t know what else to say about this book other than be prepared for feeling immense sympathy for Dave and immense hatred for his mother. I think his story is so moving that there is no discussion needed about writing style. No matter how it was written, it would come out the same.
