Summary: Queen Vernita invites twelve wonderful friends to visit with her during each month of the year. Queen Vernita and her friends enjoy fun activities throughout the Oceaneers Kingdom. Parents and teachers will love teaching the monthly calendar, days of the weeks and seasons through the storytelling adventures of Queen Vernita and her friends.

I thought the story was quite fun. It teaches not only the months, days and seasons but which months have 30 days, which have 31 and which one has 28 (normally.) The format goes something like this:

In (month), (person’s name) came to visit. He/she stayed for all (28, 30 or 31) days and ….

On Mondays, they ….
On Tuesdays, they ….
On Wednesdays, they ….
On Thursdays, they ….
On Fridays, they ….
On Saturdays, they ….
On Sundays, they ….

Reading the book was a mouthful but kids love repetition. I read it to my almost 3 year old daughter and she sat for the whole thing although most kids her age wouldn’t. This book is geared more to the 4+ crowd. I asked my daughter what her favourite part was afterwards and she said the horse (that pulls the carriages.) There was a bit of a problem in that the book needs a good editing. There were spelling and grammar mistakes. However that could easily be fixed for a second edition.
