Musing Mondays: On the Go

Spread the love

Rebecca at Just One More Page says:

I always like to have a book with me at all times – call it a nerdy grown-up security blanket – and rarely do I leave the house without slipping one into my bag (even if I KNOW I’m not going to have a chance to read it). Do you take a book with you? Do you take whatever book you’re currently reading, or do you have a special on-the-go book? And do you have a preference for a these types of book (paperback, hardback; short stories; poetry etc)?

I don’t take a book with me ALL the time but a lot of the time yes. I always take a couple when I visit my mom for the day so I can squeeze a few lines in whenever I can (like if the kids are napping or busy) I used to bring a book on a bus but with two small kids, I’m too busy keeping track of them to read. I often bring a book with me for a car ride (I don’t drive), even if it’s not too long a ride. If I’m going to a doctor’s office I bring a book for the wait although if I had to bring my kids with me, I don’t get much time to read it.

As for what to bring, It’s usually a small, lightweight book that doesn’t require much concentration so I can read a paragraph at a time and not be confused. Poetry would work but I’m not a big poetry reader. It’s usually a children’s or teen book. If I’m goinging somewhere where I’ll be moving around (like a car or bus) it has to be a book with large type, otherwise it’s hard to stay focused.
