Booking Through Thursday – Why Buy?

Spread the love

“I’ve asked, in the past, about whether you more often buy your books, or get them from libraries. What I want to know today, is, WHY BUY?
Even if you are a die-hard fan of the public library system, I’m betting you have at least ONE permanent resident of your bookshelves in your house. I’m betting that no real book-lover can go through life without owning at least one book. So … why that one? What made you buy the books that you actually own, even though your usual preference is to borrow and return them?If you usually buy your books, tell me why. Why buy instead of borrow? Why shell out your hard-earned dollars for something you could get for free?”

Well I don’t normally buy my books. I prefer to get them from the library because I just don’t have the money to buy books. Very few of the books on my shelf were bought new and those that were, most of them were gifts. I think I’ve bought 4 books brand new in the past 7 years. I do buy books from the library book sale and thrift store but those are cheap and even still I try to stick to books I will read more than once or want to keep when I’m done.
The books that are on my shelves that aren’t TBR are mostly Alice Hoffman. I am working on collecting all her books but I don’t think a single one of her books is brand new. They are all used. So the only books I own with a few exceptions are those I intend to keep after I read them and even they aren’t bought new.
