Summary: Mangus is under house arrest for confessing to being a magician when he is summoned back to the King. Mangus and his faithful servant Fabrizio are escorted to the castle where Mangus is ordered to free the King’s daughter, Princess Teresina, from a ghost. If he cannot do this, he faces death. However Mangus doesn’t believe in ghosts. What if there is a ghost – could it be the spirit of the missing prince? And why is the princess so anxious to enter into a conspiracy with Fabrizio?

This was the first book by Avi I’ve read although I have other books by him that I plan on reading.

Near the end of the book I had an idea of what might be happening and I was right in the end but it wasn’t until right before things were revealed that I really thought I was right. Considering this is a book for children, I don’t think they would be able to guess what was going on.

It was a very interesting book and I enjoyed following along with it. It had lots of great twists and turns. Recommended for ages 10 and up.
