Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Summary: In this breakthrough book, lifestyle and nutrition researchers Deborah Kesten and Larry Scherwitz offer documented proof that it is possible to overcome overeating, overweight, and obesity by nourishing yourself multidimensionally each time you eat. They reveal how overeating may be halted, even reversed, by replacing their newly identified overeating styles with the antidotes: the ancient/new elements of their Whole Person Integrative Eating dietary lifestyle described in this book.

The authors’ paradigm-shifting, well-researched message in Whole Person Integrative Eating is that food influences not only the physical dimensions of health, but also our emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. Their scientifically sound dietary lifestyle can build bridges between the millions who struggle with overeating and weight issues and the medical community. And it can inspire you to re-envision your relationship to food, eating, and weight, so that each time you eat, you are nourished…for life.

Whole Person Integrative Eating

I’ve always known that losing weight isn’t about dieting. If you just diet and lose weight but then go back to the way you used to eat you will gain the weight back. I knew it was about having a healthy lifestyle. But I struggle with overeating sometimes as well as some other unhealthy issues I didn’t realize I had till I read the book.

The Whole Person Integrative Eating (WPIE) system is based on research and has already made a difference in my family’s life. We’ve implemented some of the ideas in the book and even though we aren’t at the losing weight stage yet, we are all eating healthier foods and in healthier ways.

It’s not just about eating wholesome foods. The program has you find out what your overeating style is with a quiz rooted in science. You will probably find out (as I did) that you have more than one style that you have a problem with.

Once you identify where you are having issues, you can read the appropriate sections and make some changes. The styles include: Emotional Eating, Food Fretting, Fast Foodism, Sensory Disregard, Task Snacking, Unappetizing Atmosphere and Solo Dining.

Our family was committing many of these by eating unhealthy foods, by ourselves, in front of electronics, in a messy house and eating when we were bored or unhappy.

Please Note: The concept of the book was amazing, helpful, much needed information and is making changes in our lives. However, the delivery/format/wording of the book needs to be updated/edited. There were times when I was lost or bored and it would have been too easy to give up on the book. If this wasn’t the case, this would be a 5 star book.

If I hadn’t been reviewing the book, I might have given up myself. However I would have lost out on the well founded concepts which would have been terrible. Until another version of the book is published, I still do recommend you buy and read the book (and follow it) but just know that you should continue to struggle through the introduction and a few other parts as the concepts in the book are revolutionary and can exact real change in your life if you follow it.
