Best of 2008

Spread the love

So of the books recorded here in 2008, I rated 58 books at 5 stars! Perhaps I rate too many at 5 stars. They can’t be called excellent if too many are rated that way right?

Here are the best books for each month

January – Smart-opedia by Maple Tree Press
February – Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
March – Matrimony by Joshua Henkin
April – The Sky Isn’t Visible From Here: Scenes from a life by Felicia C. Sullivan
May – Heidi by Johanna Spyrii
June – The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields
July – Spiritual Parenting by David Carroll
August – To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee AND The Reading Solution by Paul Kropp

September – The Pact of the Wolves by Nina Blazon
October – Sisters of Misery by Megan Kelley Hall
November – The Ark, The Reed & The Fire Cloud by Jenny L. Cote
December – Chanda’s Secrets by Allan Stratton

However not all of these made it to my top 10. So without furthur ado, here is my top 10 books that I read in 2008 (not necessarily published in 2008.)

1. The Sky Isn’t Visible From Here: Scenes From a Life by Felicia C. Sullivan
2. The Ark, The Reed & The Fire Cloud by Jenny L. Cote
3. Chanda’s Secrets by Allan Stratton
4. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
5. Heidi by Johanna Spyrii
6. Quirkology: The Curious Science of Everyday Lives by Richard Wiseman
7. Facing the Lion: Growing Up Maasai on the African Savannah by Joseph Lemasolai Lekuton
8. Listening for Lions by Gloria Whelen
9. The Pact of the Wolves by Nina Blazon
10. Swimming in the Monsoon Sea by Shyam Selvadurai

Out of those, I’ll try to narrow it down to the top Fiction and top Non-fiction.

Fiction: Chanda’s Secrets by Allan Stratton
Non-Fiction: Quirkology: The Curious Science of Everyday Lives by Richard Wiseman

Wow, what a difference from last year. I only have 3 non-fiction in my top ten list even though I read mostly non-fiction. I’ve read more fiction this year because of challenges and review books and they’ve made a bigger impact. I’m actually quite surprised at my final list.

You’ll notice my top 10 has none of the books that most people’s lists have, that’s because I haven’t read much of the books the others have (i.e. Twilight, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society
