A Long Way From Chicago by Richard Peck

Stars: ****

This book was read for the Reading the Author challenge.

This one was better although I still think I liked A Brief Darkness better. It’s hard to say, they are so different. This one is actually a Newbery Honor book, National Book Award finalist and an ALA Notable Book.

It’s the story of Joey and Mary Alice who go visit their Grandma Dowdel for one week every August. Something strange happens every year, something very different each time. From seeing their first corpse (and he isn’t resting easy) to helping Grandma trespass, pinch property, catch the sheriff in his underwear, and feed the hungry – all in one day – the kids have nine summers they’ll never forget.

It was a very interesting book, different that what I’ve read before.
