Booking Through Thursday – Decorum

Spread the love

Okay so it’s actually Saturday but I haven’t had a chance to answer this yet. I didn’t do last week because I didn’t really have anything to say about the topic.

“Do you have “issues” with too much profanity or overly explicit (ahem) “romantic” scenes in books? Or do you take them in stride? Have issues like these ever caused you to close a book? Or do you go looking for more exactly like them? (grin)”

I don’t like a lot of profanity and will stop reading a book if it’s over the top. The only exception is The Catcher in the Rye. I had no problems finishing that book, probably because it was all the same swear word and was used so much in every sentence that it didn’t seem like a swear word anymore. However I really have issue with the F word in books. You can make your point without swearing. I don’t care if the character is the sort of person who swears, it’s not needed.

As for romantic scenes, I have no problem reading these and sure I enjoy them. I don’t go looking for them specifically though. I don’t read romances, I can’t stand a whole book about love but a scene once in a while is interesting.
